The Greater Augusta Black Chamber of Commerce is actively seeking committee members to help execute several board initiatives. Our mission is to serve as an advocate for the creation and growth of competitive, profitable, and sustainable black-owned entities. We are committed to providing quality education and training programs that emphasize economic development, ownership, and wealth-building practices.
Committees are a great way for members to get involved with the community. It’s a great way to serve the community. We rely on our committees to be a branch into the various aspects of our organization, allowing us to accomplish more, represent more, and be champions for more. Committees are the lifeblood of our organization because of how much value we place on every member’s commitment to our work. Being part of a GABCC committee allows us to truly carry out our mission of #OneCommunity and #OneVoice.

Current Committees
Executive Administration Committee
The Executive Administrative Committee plays a vital role in ensuring smooth operations by maintaining organization, attention to detail, and effective communication across all levels of the chamber.
Members assist the Executive Assistant with administrative tasks, including preparing and editing correspondence, reports, and other documents for the President. Strong proficiency in word processing, database management, and presentation software is essential.
Key responsibilities include managing the President’s and chamber’s calendars, scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, handling audio-visual systems, recording minutes, and ensuring meetings stay on schedule. Depending on their areas of responsibility, committee members may also lead their own meetings. Additionally, they coordinate travel arrangements, including booking flights, hotels, and out-of-town meetings. The committee also oversees event planning for conferences, dinners, executive retreats, and other chamber-related functions.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee Ambassadors are responsible for expanding and managing the membership of the GABCC. Their key roles include assisting current members with membership concerns, maintaining accurate member contact information, organizing membership activities, and facilitating the onboarding process for new members.
Additionally, they actively recruit new members, re-engage former members, and communicate important updates or changes. Ambassadors also contribute by selling sponsorships and advertising, as well as supporting other business-related initiatives as directed by the CEO. Furthermore, they assist the VP at Large(s) in executing all membership-related duties and additional duties identified by the President & VP of Chamber.
Business & Financial Affairs Committee
The committee identifies business ownership opportunities within industries where members can compete effectively, profitably, and sustainably. It develops innovative programs to educate both members and non-members, focusing on business and financial growth.
Responsibilities include designing and delivering educational initiatives, securing high-level sponsorships, building and maintaining strategic relationships, and identifying key partnerships to strengthen the business and financial supply chain.
Community Affairs Committee
The Community Affairs Committee fosters relationships between the chamber, local businesses, and the broader community to promote economic growth and civic engagement. It advocates for community-focused initiatives, supports local events, and collaborates with organizations to address key social and economic issues.
The committee works to enhance the chamber’s presence through outreach, volunteerism, and strategic partnerships that benefit both businesses and residents. Additionally, it assists in identifying opportunities for community development and ensures that chamber members are actively involved in initiatives that strengthen the local economy.
Military and Veteran Affairs Committee
The Military and Veteran Affairs Committee supports active-duty service members, veterans, and military families by fostering connections between the business community and military organizations. It advocates for policies and initiatives that promote veteran entrepreneurship, employment opportunities, and workforce development.
The committee also works to strengthen partnerships with military bases, veteran service organizations, and local businesses to enhance resources and support networks. Additionally, it helps coordinate events, programs, and recognition efforts that honor and assist those who have served in the armed forces.
Rural Business Committee
The Rural Business Committee focuses on supporting and advocating for businesses in rural communities by addressing their unique challenges and opportunities. It works to enhance economic development, provide resources, and create networking opportunities that help rural businesses thrive.
The committee collaborates with local leaders, policymakers, and organizations to drive investment, infrastructure improvements, and workforce development in rural areas. Additionally, it assists chamber members in accessing funding, training, and strategic partnerships to ensure sustainable growth and success.
Health & Human Services Committee
The Health & Human Services Committee focuses on promoting the well-being of the community by addressing healthcare access, public health initiatives, mental health resources/advocates, and human services support.
It collaborates with healthcare providers, nonprofits, and businesses to improve health education, wellness programs, and resources for chamber members and residents. The committee advocates for policies that enhance healthcare affordability, workforce development in the health sector, and social services that strengthen the community. Additionally, it organizes events, forums, and partnerships to connect businesses with opportunities that support a healthier and more resilient workforce.

Government Affairs Committee
The Government Affairs Committee advocates for pro-business policies and legislative initiatives that support the growth and success of chamber members. It monitors local, state, and federal policy developments, ensuring that the business community stays informed and engaged in the legislative process.
The committee works to build strong relationships with elected officials, policymakers, and government agencies to represent the interests of businesses. Additionally, it organizes advocacy efforts, policy forums, and legislative events to provide members with a platform to voice their concerns and influence decision-making.
